Quarterly Community Forums
Next forum: The New MH Act in Action
February 29, 2016
MHCC ACT Forums
MHCC ACT hosts and facilitates a number of regular forums throughout the year for service providers, sector workers, consumer, carers and the general community.
Forums provide an opportunity to engage with the community around developments in mental health policy, research and programs.
Quarterly Community Forum
The Quarterly Community Forums are a partnership between the Mental Health Community Coalition, ACT Mental Health Consumer Network, Carers ACT, and Mental Health, Justice Health, Alcohol and Drug Services.
The forums are open to the general public and provide an opportunity to learn about recent developments in the mental health sector and meet members of the ACT mental health community.
November Quarterly Forum – Multicultural Mental Health and Wellbeinb
When: Monday, 21 November 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Where: The Griffin Centre – Room 6, 1st Floor Griffin Centre, 20 Genge Street, Canberra City, ACT
Our November Quarterly Forum is on Multicultural Mental Health and Wellbeing.
There is little localised data on the use of government or community sector mental health services by people of different ethnicities. However, we do know that, across Australia, a smaller proportion of people from a non-English speaking background use mental health services or medications than their Anglo counterparts. There also does not appear to be a great deal of input into mental health policy from people from a non-English speaking background.
What are the barriers to mental health service use and participation in policy making? How do different communities regard mental health? Is stigma greater in some communities, and does this inhibit help-seeking?
Hear from ACT Health, community managed service providers and multicultural mental health consumers and carers. As always, there will be plenty of time in the second half of the session for questions and discussion.

Archive: 2016 September Quarterly Forum – Capital Health Network and Mental Health
Capital Health Network (CHN) is now the ‘commissioner’ (and funder) of non-government mental health services in the ACT, a role it is rapidly coming to grips with. It will pay special attention to young people with severe mental illness.
At this Forum, CHN will outline some of its thinking and prioritising, answer questions and hear from, and be informed by, service providers, consumers and carers.
Mental Health and the NDIS Transition Forum
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is creating new opportunities and challenges for the community sector generally, and for mental health services in particular. MHCC ACT convenes regular sector forums to provide current information and facilitate discussion about the NDIS.
Upcoming events will be listed here. If you have any questions regarding our forums please contact us.
