About the Event

Have your say!

Join other stakeholders in the sector and tell us what you see as the priority areas for ACT Government investment in the mental health and wellbeing of the ACT population. Where are the gaps in services and long waiting list? Is there enough early intervention and prevention capacity in the ACT? Are we catering well for people with the most complex needs? What about the capacity of the workforce?

The ACT has had a reputation of investing strongly in the NGO/NFP mental health service sector in the past. What needs to stay the same? What needs to change? Where is new investment most needed?

It is also important to think about budget priorities through a broader social determinants of health lense. What other areas of government investment should we attach importance to? Areas such as housing, emergency services response models, women, education, justice, children etc?

As preparation, we suggest you read the ACT Government response to the 'PC inquiry into the social and economic benefits of improving mental health'. It provides insight into ACT government priorities and strategic direction.

"...it is necessary to challenge the orthodoxy that health outcomes can only be improved solely through clinical services, and, instead recognise that many of the key determinants of health outcomes are outside the traditional areas of the health remit"

(ACT Government Response to PC Inquiry, p.37)

The other document worth looking at as you think about this is the 'ACT Office for Mental Health and Wellbeing Work Plan 2019-21'

If you have views on budget priorities or some good ideas on new innovative services or areas that need more investment, come along and put them on the table!

We want to hear from you!

The information gathered from this forum will provide important input to the MHCC ACT 2020/21 Budget Submission.
