ACT Mental Health Sector Update - 20 February 2020

This week saw the release of an important report into the interplay between housing and mental health pathways and Cassandra Goldie, ACOSS CEO wrote of the need for government policies to complement the work of the community sector. Another revealing report is included on Disability Employment Services and mental illness. Several items have been included on issues to do with the NDIS workforce. Also on the NDIS – how to manage conflict of interest. The ANU has released some tools for mental health after the bushfires. The ANU is also looking for lived experience participants for some research on lived experience! We have an article on the mental health coaches program by Beyond Blue. How does menopause impact women’s mental health? Researchers have found that online mindfulness-based cognitive behaviour therapy can help depression. A range of resources are available in the ACT to make your service safe and welcoming for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander people. We have added quite a few new events to the newsletter including training in ATOD and a workshop on multicultural mental health, both next week in the ACT. Scholarships are available for a Diploma of Governance and an information evening is being held in Queanbeyan for a new Cert II in Community Services.

This editions member spotlight is on the Youth Coalition of the ACT.
