ACT Mental Health Sector Update - 3 September 2020

...we want to make sure you keep safe, and follow the latest advice from ACT Health regarding the increases in COVID-19 cases in Victoria, Queensland and NSW - please note the recent public health advice for high risk settings and health professionals. This week we saw the launch of the ACT Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan, and we also look at the interim report released by the Select Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic response, noting the 6 mental health recommendations made. The National Mental Health Commission have launched their #GettingThroughThisTogether campaign, while the gap between demand and funding for mental health supports is discussed in the Guardian. We take a look at the small business owners support hub Ahead for Business, discuss how you can get involved in World Mental Health Day and the ACT Mental Health Month in October, and MHCC ACT announce its new training grant, to be awarded during the ACT Mental Health Month Awards in October. We end on a sad note, in farewelling Stasia Dabrowski, and acknowledging her legacy in serving one of Canberra's soup kitchens for 40 years. Vale Stasia. There is also a list of interesting mental health resources and articles for further reading.
