ACT Mental Health Sector Update - 5 March 2020

In this edition more research into the effectiveness of peer workers. ACT service providers yet again facing funding uncertainty as well as how burnout particularly impacts mental health workers. Take advantage of free training to help prevent spread of coronavirus among people with disabilities. Learn more about factors linked to anxiety disorders; and how abandonment impacts people. The lack of coordination between physical and mental health care systems might be one reason people with severe mental illness have a shorter life expectancy. Several articles on the NDIS – the good news is that things are generally taking less time and there have been improvements in funding for transport. However reports of the NDIS failing service providers and participants alike keep coming. ABC radio Canberra is seeking stories from impactful young Canberrans. The Capital Health Network (CHN) recently posted the regional ACT Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan on their website. CHN is also this editions focus on a member organisation. We finish with one photographers mission to use his art to reduce stigma and promote help seeking for mental illness.
