The Mental Health Community Coalition ACT coordinates Mental Health Month (MHM) each October here in the ACT. MHM aims to raise community awareness and understanding of mental illness, reduce discrimination associated with mental illness, and promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
Preparations are well underway for this year and we are pleased to share some exciting events happening in the ACT and surrounding areas throughout MHM.
This year the ACT will be home to a remarkable array of over 35 events which aim to maximise the wellbeing of individuals and the wider community and encourage people to live mindfully and seek help. People can try their hand at table-tennis, take part in an art workshop, join one of the wellness walks, catch a film or play, attend a panel event and much more!
Kick off MHM by coming along to the official launch, a comedy evening at the Dickson Tradies where Canberrans can help promote positive mental health, break down stigma associated with mental illness and be entertained by some of the best club comedians in Australia!
Celebrate World Mental Health Day on October 10 by joining us for the integral Mental Health & Wellbeing Expo. The expo is a free public event bringing the ACT community together to celebrate positive mental health and learn more about the variety of services available in the ACT. Join 80 local organisations in a fun market day atmosphere with interactive activities, sausage sizzle and live music. Stallholder registrations are open until 5pm Friday, 27 September 2019. If you do wish to have a stall at the expo we do recommend registering asap as stall spaces are limited and are filling very quickly this year.
Nominations are now open for the 2019 Mental Health Month Awards! These awards celebrate the outstanding contributions people have made to improve the health and wellbeing of the ACT community.
This year the MHM Advisory Committee has implemented 4 new award categories to recognise a wide range of individuals, groups, businesses, organisations and initiatives doing wonderful work in the ACT mental health and wellbeing sector. Nominations close COB Friday September 20, 2019. The official awards ceremony will be Tuesday October 29 from 3pm at the Bradman Room at Manuka Oval.
